Get Informed

Check out the answers to some of our most frequently asked questions below. If there’s something you need more details about that isn’t mentioned here, please get in touch for more information. We’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

We try to include specific treatment information here for you to peruse as we do get a lot of questions about what we can do and how it all works! However, you will need to come for a complimentary consultation to discuss your concerns, provide us with medical history and details so that we can ensure we are giving you the most accurate information and recommending a safe and suitable treatment plan for your needs.

What payments do you take?

We take both EFTPOS and Afterpay in clinic. Depending on your skin condition and treatment needs we can mix-bill some appointments if you have a current medicare card, making the out of pocket expense for you more affordable.

What should I avoid pre and post treatment?

The same rules apply to almost all treatments that we perform here in clinic. Before and after appointments you must be careful of sun exposure and use a broad spectrum SPF50+ to avoid sun burn and tanning which could sensitise your skin or be contraindicated to treatment. We also recommend you avoid spray tanning as that is a risk with most of our treatments as well and if you have any fake tan residue on your skin we cannot laser/peel/needle that area safely..

For some treatments you may be advised to cease certain medications, skin products such as retinoids or blood thinners, alternatively you may be told to prep with a course of preventative medication such as Llysine for cold sores or prep with skin products for treatments such as a peel - you will be advised of any specific changes needed at your consultation. For most laser and facial treatments you need to be clean shaven in the areas we will be treating. Post treatment, it is advised to keep the skin cool, avoid heavy exercise, bacteria from activities such as swimming and avoid  touching or picking at the skin. At your consultation we will examine your current skin care routine and make any changes to products as required to ensure you are safe and suitable to proceed with treatment and to help you get the best results possible, and you will be notified if you require any specific aftercare products as well.

What is photo rejuvenation and how will it help my sun damaged skin?

Photo-rejuvenation involves the treatment of sun damage (photo-ageing) and hyperpigmentation to rejuvenate the complexion. Photo-rejuvenation is effective for age spots (solar lentigos), freckles (ephiledes) & post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation. We have two lasers appropriate for treating varying types and depths of pigmentation – the CANDELA Gentle Lase pro at 755nm, and the CUTERA ExcelV+ at 532nm.

The process of Laser pigmentation removal is relatively pain-free, you will feel some very quick pulses of heat, where the laser light penetrates the skin and denatures the pigment, causing it to break down and begin to shed in one of two ways. Some pigment is removed as a waste product internally through the lymphatic system, whilst the more superficial pigment dries out and makes its way to the surface of the skin so it can begin to shed. The treatment itself is very quick.

*Due to this pigment removal process, it is important to note that pigment will get darker before it gets lighter so don’t be alarmed, its all part of the process! The pigment usually sloughs off within 1-2 weeks of treatment, it is not uncomfortable and is not visible when it happens, so gentle exfoliation is recommended after 2 weeks to ensure this process happens smoothly.

What is Laser genesis, how does it work and who can have it?

Laser genesis creates a controlled thermal trauma to the overstretched collagen and elastin fibres, triggering them to break down naturally and send a chemical signal to your body to begin producing brand new fibroblasts which continue to mature and strengthen over time. This means you will be creating brand new collagen and elastin to rebuild strong, young and healthy skin! We use the CUTERA ExcelV+ Laser at 1064 nm to effectively penetrate to the dermal tissue.

As this is a thermal treatment it also effectively kills bacteria including those nasty p.acne bacteria, it helps to reduce vellus hair on the face, reduces inflammation, capillary damage and diffuse redness, while at the same time tightening pores to help control sebaceous flow and improve the appearance of the skin overall.

Suitable indications for Laser Genesis include : Aged and sun damaged skin, skin with visible wrinkles and laxity, sufferers of acne and inflammation, rosacea, scarred skin with uneven texture and enlarged pores.

Laser genesis is one of the most effective non-invasive cosmetic treatments available today with minimal discomfort, no downtime, and VERY impressive clinical results. The treatment itself feels like warm raindrops on the skin, at times there may be a short burst of heat but nothing unbearable as we are performing a very controlled heating technique.

Treatments can be performed 2 weekly, and a course of 4-6 is generally recommended.

What are Cosmetic injectables? What products do you use?

Anti wrinkle injections help to reduce fine lines. We use Allergan here in our clinic.

It’s not about getting rid of every minuscule line. It’s about the prevention of those deeper lines that might bother you. Over time, your skin’s natural ability to protect itself reduces, muscle contractions and movement leave their mark. Anti-wrinkle injections are a non-invasive, quick, affordable and effective way to help reduce and prevent wrinkle formation.Anti-wrinkle injections are made from a purified protein that temporarily causes facial muscles to relax, instantly softening lines and wrinkles and reducing the severity of visible wrinkles.

These injections are often used for the upper face which shows the most expression lines, but we also use them for medical reasons that arent purely cosmetic, they help to reduce excessive sweating on the face, hands and body and also relax the jaw to stop headaches caused by teeth grinding.

Dermal fillers on the other hand perform a different action, they are one of the most effective and instant cosmetic procedures to enhance the face and create a youthful appearance. We use Juvederm products in our clinic. Fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid gel, essentially an imitation of the natural substance already found within our skin. As we age, we naturally lose collagen, elastin and bone density, and the body becomes less able to reproduce these important supporting structures leading to a more aged or sunken appearance. Fillers work to give this support and shape back; it is like rebuilding the scaffolding underneath the skin and depending on the product they tend to last for a period of one to two years. These are most often used in lips, cheeks, under eyes and jaw.

Skin boosters are essentially the same as what we inject in a dermal filler, but on a much smaller scale and evenly distributed around the face or spot treating smaller areas. The benefit of this treatment is all thanks to the Hyaluronic acid gel used. This product is well known for its ability to hold 1000x its weight in water, instantly creating a bolus of hydration under the skin which helps to nourish cells, give a glowing complexion, smooth out fine lines, fight visible signs of ageing and improve the overall appearance and health of the skin. Improvement is seen instantly and results are long lasting.

Tell me about spider vein removal?

Spider veins or Telangiectasia is a very simple skin condition to treat with our medical grade CUTERA ExcelV+ Laser, and results are fast! Often vessels can be seen collapsing instantly, which drastically improves the appearance of skin health on the surface. Spider veins often appear on the face and legs, but can appear anywhere on the body. They have many causes, including sun damage, excessive heat, skin trauma, genetic predisposition or in the case of veins on the legs – frequent standing, pregnancy or prolonged physical activity.

Please note we are unable to treat varicose veins (raised veins) on the legs with this Laser and pursuing sclerotherapy is advised for safe treatment of this condition.

Also be aware that veins do have the ability to come back if vasodilation occurs post treatment (such as drinking alcohol, heavy exercise, blood thinners) so being conscious of your activities in the 48hrs post treatment is important for best results. As some people are prone to telangiectasias, maintenance may be needed at times, particularly if you work on your feet all day long.

In most cases a fantastic reduction is seen in 1-2 treatments.Facial treatments can be performed 2-4 weekly, however for best results on larger leg vessels 12 weeks between treatment is ideal due to a longer time taken for the body to process and collapse these vessels.

532_Rosecea_1 excelv+ laser.jpg

I have Rosacea, is this permanent? Can it be improved?

If you have redness on the cheeks and T-zone, can see small visible blood vessels just under the skin, get spots and pimples on the face and your face reacts by flushing to certain foods, drinks and climates, you may have rosacea. It is a little known skin disorder and is a condition that cannot be cured, however it can be controlled. Rosacea treatment with our CUTERA ExcelV+ has a dual action, it works to collapse the tiny capillary network near the surface of the skin causing the flushed appearance, whilst at the same time stimulating collagen production to enhance firmness of the skin and increase the strength of the skin between these vessels and the surface, making any leftover vessels appear more discreet. In the case of Papulopustular Rosacea, the Laser genesis treatment will also help to heal lesions and reduce inflammation and appearance of pustules. A course of 4-6 treatments is recommended for best results at 2 weekly intervals, with maintenance treatments as needed at times of flare up. Often the results will last for months to years before maintenance is required.

Micro needling, Skin needling, Dermal Rolling, Dermal stamping, Radio frequency with Needling, PRP... are they all the same? Can I do this at home?

Skin/ Dermal needling is essentially the name for all of these skin penetration treatments. Dermal rolling was the first type of skin needling to become popular, using a rolling device over the skin to create controlled micro-wounds in order to stimulate natural wound healing and collagen production. The issue with dermal rolling was that the pressure and depth could not always be maintained, leaving results unpredictable and potentially causing too much damage to the skin.

We use Micro-needling pens, the advantage of this is that we can control the depth and pressure and treat areas more precisely to achieve exact results. With needling pens we can safely treat slightly closer to the eye area than with a roller as well to plump out smile lines and improve the appearance of under eye ‘bags’.

Needling triggers new collagen and elastin fibres to develop, to rebuild and strengthen the scaffolding under the skin – in turn improving wrinkles, scars and large pores. The skin also regenerates and the surface texture is improved, this improved wound healing and cell turnover can also effectively break up and remove hyper pigmentation.

Because of the micro-channels created in the skin with the needling procedure, product absorption is increased dramatically and active ingredients can create a profound benefit. Suitable indications for needling include – post inflammatory hyper pigmentation, post acne, open pores and congestion, ageing and fine lines, melasma or block pigmentation, scarred skin.

Radio frequency is an added bonus - a fantastic dual option treatment, combining the benefits of skin needling (most RF machines use the stamping method), with thermal collagen induction using the radio frequency. Because of this, it is able to provide incredible results particularly for an aged and sagging or scarred skin and results can be seen in as little as 4 weeks.

Platelet rich plasma treatments are also known as the ‘Vampire facial’ and they are rapidly growing in popularity due to some incredible results. This treatment involves the Doctor taking a blood sample from your arm, which is then processed in a centrifuge to separate the plasma from the rest of your blood. This little vial of Platelet rich plasma is then applied topically to the skin and worked in with our micro-needling device to ensure maximum penetration and stimulate further healing. In some instances this serum is injected into the area instead. The platelet rich plasma works almost immediately to hydrate and repair cells, and results continue to improve over the course of a few weeks. It is especially effective for scarred or damaged skin, deep wrinkles and signs of ageing, and an average of three treatments are recommended for optimum results. PRP is not suitable for patients with bloodborne diseases and those on blood thinners.

Multiple treatments are always recommended for best effect. PLEASE do not try needling at home! The benefits of seeing a professional in clinic are endless, the sterility and infection control is paramount, expertise on techniques, using the best equipment with the right settings at the correct depth to address your concerns. There is a lot that can go wrong if this is DIY and can lead to permanent scarring or severe infection if handled incorrectly..

Can Laser hair removal work on everybody?

Unfortunately laser hair removal isn't for everybody. It is unable to work on light blonde, red or grey hairs as there is not enough melanin / dark pigment in the follicle for the laser to effectively find it and shut it down. Laser hair removal is best effective on brown or black hair and there are different machines suitable for any skin tone. We usually recommend 8-12 treatments to ensure a 80%-90% reduction for most people, with maintenance sessions needed every few months or years depending on your genetics and hormones. About one week after each laser session the affected hairs fall out, and you will notice fewer and finer hairs coming through and growing more slowly every time.
